Reflexology for Fertility & Pregnancy |
It often comes as a surprise to couples that decide the time is right to start a family only to find that they are unable to conceive.
There can be many factors which affect fertility, from lifestyle factors such as stress, poor diet, smoking, high consumption of alcohol
as well as physical problems for example polycystic ovaries, anovulation (failure to ovulate), endometriosis. The problem may also lie with
the male partner- sperm that is poor quality or has poor motility, or low sperm count. For most people failure to conceive compounds the
stress and hinders fertility even further.
Reflexology as a stress reliever can have a positive impact on your fertility by reducing the stress hormones circulating in your body, and
increasing the levels of endorphins – the feel good hormones.
Reflexology has also been found to help regulate hormone levels and the menstrual cycle. Whilst little scientifically validated research has been carried out into the effectiveness of reflexology as an aid to fertility, over the years I have treated many couples who firmly believe that reflexology has played an important part in helping them to have a baby.
Reflexology & IVF
For clients who are planning to undergo IVF treatment, reflexology can provide wonderful emotional support during this very stressful time. Men can also benefit from the treatment especially when combined with herbal medicine and nutritional improvements.
It is important to make improvements to your diet at least 3 months prior to commencing IVF, as it takes around this length of time to improve the quality of the egg and sperm.
