Reflexology for Menopause

Reflexology has been found to be an effective help during the menopause.

This is a natural change in the female reproductive system that normally occurs between the ages 45 and 55, although pre-menopausal symptoms may occur earlier.

As the ovaries cease to function, the levels of oestrogen and progesterone in the body fall, leading to the emotional and physical problems often associated with the 'change'.

Initially periods may become irregular, lighter or heavier, before stopping completely. Hot flushes and night sweats are common. Other symptoms may include tiredness, anxiety, depression, irritability, disturbed sleep, poor concentration and memory lapses. These emotional symptoms can be particularly disturbing as women may feel as if they have lost control of their lives.

Some women are happy to take HRT or other drugs to address their problems. Others may prefer to take a more natural route by having reflexology perhaps in combination with herbal/ nutritional medicine and also hypnotherapy. This approach has been found to be very effective in helping both the physical and emotional symptoms of the menopause without the side effects associated with drug based treatments.

" I was referred here by the nurse at our local GP's surgery for menopausal problems. I was having problems sleeping, hot flushes and tension. After the first session I could feel more relaxed but after 3 or 4, there was a definite improvement in the sleeping condition and in the hot flushes as well. I've continued coming in monthly so that the benefits continue and also the main part, I find, is it's totally relaxing. "
